NEWS SITES: Read all about it! Our top picks for practicing English.

What is an online newspaper? An online newspaper is the online version of a newspaper. Now, people have access to current news and events at the palm of their hands. You can find endless informative articles everyday. But be careful! Sometimes, websites may have false information, fake articles, or hoaxes. The following list contains my personal favorites. I hope you try them out and enjoy a good read.

9 favorite news sites for practicing English while learning about the world:

Vice is an international news channel created by and for a connected generation. They provide a wide variey of media outlets. Their news is "uncut" and to the point. "We provide an unvarnished look at some of the most important events of our time, highlight under-reported stories from around the globe, and get to the heart of the matter with reporters who call it like they see it."

NOTE: Please be advised that this website may sometimes use graphic content and language.

CNN is one of the largest online newspapers and TV Networks out there. Find up to date world news quickly. "CNN.com is among the world's leaders in online news and information delivery. Staffed 24 hours, seven days a week by a dedicated staff in CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, and in bureaus worldwide, CNN.com relies heavily on CNN's global team of almost 4,000 news professionals. CNN.com features the latest multimedia technologies, from live video streaming to audio packages to searchable archives of news features and background information. The site is updated continuously throughout the day."

Not as heavy as the regular CNN.com, CNN Student News is a ten-minute, commercial-free, daily news program designed for middle and high school classes. It is produced by the journalists at CNN. This award-winning show and its companion website are available free of charge throughout the school year.

Although this website doesn't provide all news, such as politics and crime, it provides educational and interesting current events. Find news articles on history, science, innovation, arts and culture, travel, and more.

The Week offers commentary and analysis of the day's breaking news and current events as well as arts, entertainment, people and much much more. One thing I specifically like about this website is it's SPEED READS section. We don't always have time for lengthy articles, especially if reading in a class. Speed reads provides us with quick and easy news. (However, it does contain a lot of American politics)

The Huffington Post (sometimes abbreviated Huff Post) offers news, satire, blogs, and original content and covers politics, business, entertainment, environment, technology, popular media, lifestyle, culture, comedy, healthy living, women's interests, and local news.

An online news network you can always rely on is BBC. 24 hours a day they are working hard to provide the world with breaking news from around the world. They have many medie outlets accessible and ready to use.

"BBC World News is the BBC's commercially funded international 24-hour news and information channel, broadcast in English in more than 200 countries and territories across the globe." -BBC

The New York Times has a long history and reputation to go with it. They offer diverse content, "news as impartially as possible — “without fear or favor,” as they have stated. You can always rely on them to get professional and unbiased news.

Quartz is a digitally native news outlet, born in 2012, for business people in the new global economy. They publish bracingly creative and intelligent journalism with a broad worldview. In my opinion, they're a little more honest and a little more interesting sometimes.
